Reinheimen National Park spans the More og Romsdal and Innlandet counties of Norway across the municipalities of Lesja, Skjak, Vaga, Lom, Fjord and Rauma, established in 2006 and covering about 1,969 square kilometers of continuous mountain terrain including much of the Tafjordfjella range. Described as one of the largest intact wilderness areas in western Norway, it preserves reindeer habitat in the northern Ottadalen valley along with wolverines, golden eagles, gyrfalcons and ptarmigan, its landscape ranging from sharp western ridges and swift rivers such as the Istra, Rauma and Lora to gentler eastern valleys, with numerous peaks above 2,000 meters.
