Sikhote-Alin Nature Reserve is a Russian zapovednik, the country's strictest category of scientific nature reserve, in Primorsky Krai in the Russian Far East. Founded in 1935 to protect the sable, it grew into the core stronghold for the endangered Siberian tiger and for old-growth Manchurian mixed forest across the Sikhote-Alin mountain range, and it remains the largest nature reserve in Primorsky Krai. Its central portion was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001 as Central Sikhote-Alin, recognized for its unusual mix of northern taiga and southern subtropical species living side by side.
