Skjoldungernes Land National Park lies in central Zealand, Denmark, about 30 kilometers from Copenhagen, and was established in 2015. It covers about 170 square kilometers of Ice Age landscape with rolling hills and river valleys, forests and woodland, and takes in part of Roskilde Fjord. The park is named for the legendary Skjoldung dynasty of early Danish history and holds historic sites connected to that legend alongside scenic trails and shelters. Unlike a museum, it is a working landscape where people live and farm, with parts of the park in private ownership, and it is run through a board appointed by the Danish minister of environment, a national park council and a secretariat that rely on voluntary agreements with landowners.
