Sor-Spitsbergen National Park occupies the southern end of Spitsbergen island in Norway's Svalbard archipelago, established in 1973 over 8,504 square kilometers, making it one of the largest protected areas in the Norwegian Arctic. It comprises three regions, Wedel Jarlsberg Land, Torell Land and Sorkapp Land, more than 65 percent of which is ice cap, with the remainder mostly tundra, and it serves as an important refuge for seabirds and marine wildlife in the high Arctic.
