Trakai Historical National Park was designated in 1992 to encompass the historic town of Trakai, about 25 kilometers west of Vilnius, along with the forests, lakes and villages surrounding it. Classified IUCN Category II, it is the only historical national park in Europe, and is included on the UNESCO Tentative List.
