Yorkshire Dales National Park

Yorkshire Dales National Park is a national park in northern England covering about 2,178 square kilometers of the Yorkshire Dales region along with the Howgill Fells and Orton Fells. It was first designated in 1954 and extended westward in 2016, an expansion that increased its area by nearly a quarter. The highest point in the park is Whernside at 736 meters, one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks along with Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent. It contains well known features such as Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Bolton Castle and Aysgarth Falls, and became an International Dark Sky Reserve in 2020. More than a thousand farms operate within its boundaries, and tourism and agriculture are the mainstays of its economy. It is managed by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
