The Zwin is a nature reserve on the North Sea coast, straddling the border between Belgium and the Netherlands. It occupies the entrance area of a former tidal inlet that, during the Middle Ages, connected the North Sea to the ports of Sluis and Bruges further inland. The reserve has protected this former inlet and its surrounding wetland habitat since 1952.
