National Park

This dimension names the specific kind of legal designation a protected area holds, a national park, a nature reserve or a wilderness area. Wikipedia describes protected areas broadly as "locations that receive protection because of their recognized natural or cultural values," and the exact designation determines what protection actually means in practice. Browsing by designation type groups areas that carry the same formal status.
