Riau is a province of Indonesia on the eastern coast of central Sumatra, fronting the Strait of Malacca and bordered by North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Jambi and the South China Sea. Its capital is Pekanbaru, and the province is a major center of Indonesia's petroleum industry.
