Amazonia is the vast tropical bioregion and cultural macro-region of northern South America built around the Amazon rainforest and its watershed, spanning parts of Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. Home to the largest tract of rainforest on Earth and an extraordinary concentration of biodiversity and indigenous peoples, it is defined as much by its ecological and cultural unity as by the river system that drains it.
