Balochistan is a historical region in West and South Asia, located in the Iranian plateau's far southeast and bordering the Indian plate and the Arabian Sea coastline. It is an arid region of desert and mountains primarily populated by ethnic Baloch people, extending across parts of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan rather than corresponding to any single country's borders. The region is strategically significant for its coastline along the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman, its mineral wealth, and its potential for oil and gas discoveries.
