Carinthia is the southernmost and least densely populated Austrian state, lying in the Eastern Alps across 9,536 square kilometers of mountainous terrain and alpine lakes. Its elevation ranges from the 3,798 meter summit of the Grossglockner down to the Drava River valley at 339 meters, making it a major destination for alpine tourism and outdoor recreation.
