Frisia is a cross border cultural region of northwestern Europe stretching along the Wadden Sea across the northern Netherlands and northwestern Germany, home to the Frisians, a West Germanic ethnic group with a distinct language and culture. Long significant as a trading area, Frisia today remains split between the two nations with varying degrees of regional autonomy in each.
