Pomerania is a historical region on the southern shore of the Baltic Sea in Central Europe, split between the West Pomeranian, Pomeranian, and Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodeships of Poland and parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg in Germany. Sparsely populated outside its cities, the landscape of farmland, lakes, and forest is anchored by Gdansk and Szczecin and includes the Baltic islands of Rugen, Usedom, and Wolin.
