The Iberian Peninsula

The Iberian Peninsula is the southwesternmost peninsula of Europe, separated from the rest of the continent by the Pyrenees and comprising Spain and Portugal along with the microstate of Andorra and the British territory of Gibraltar. Its long Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines, central plateau and history of Roman, Visigothic, Islamic and Christian rule have given the peninsula a culturally distinct identity within Europe, expressed in the Spanish and Portuguese languages that later spread across much of Latin America.
