The Korean Peninsula is the peninsula of East Asia projecting southward from the Asian mainland between the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan, home to the divided states of North Korea and South Korea. Mountainous and historically unified under a shared Korean language, culture and dynastic history for over a millennium before its division along the 38th parallel following the Second World War, it remains one of the world's most heavily militarized borders.
