The North Sea Region is the group of northwestern European countries bordering the North Sea, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and parts of France and Sweden. Bound together by offshore oil and gas extraction, major shipping routes, fishing grounds and formal cooperation programs such as the European Union's Interreg North Sea Region, it is a working economic and environmental designation distinct from the sea itself.
