The Pampas are the vast, fertile lowland grasslands of south-central South America, covering most of central Argentina and stretching into Uruguay and the Rio Grande do Sul region of southern Brazil. Their deep, nutrient-rich soils and temperate climate have made the region one of the world's great agricultural and cattle-ranching zones, and its horseback ranching culture produced the iconic gaucho tradition.
