The Sub-Antarctic Islands are a scattered group of remote, cold, wind-swept islands ringing Antarctica in the Southern Ocean, north of the Antarctic Convergence but south of the major continents, including South Georgia, the Kerguelen Islands, the Prince Edward Islands, Macquarie Island and the Falkland Islands. Largely uninhabited or home only to research stations, they support significant seabird and seal colonies and are administered as dependent or outlying territories of Argentina, the United Kingdom, France, South Africa and Australia.
