Pahang

State

Pahang, officially Pahang Darul Makmur, is a state of Malaysia and the largest state in Peninsular Malaysia, third largest in the country, covering a total land area of 36,005.95 square kilometres. It occupies the basin of the Pahang River and a stretch of the east coast as far south as Endau, and it borders Kelantan and Terengganu to the north, Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan to the west and Johor to the south, with the South China Sea to the east. The Titiwangsa Mountains separate it from the west coast states, and its highest point is Mount Tahan in the Tahan Range, 2,187 metres high. The state is divided into 11 districts and its capital and largest city is Kuantan. In July 1895 Sultan Ahmad signed the Federation Agreement that made Pahang one of the Federated Malay States, and in 1948 it joined the Federation of Malaya.
