Aceh is the westernmost province of Indonesia, occupying the northern tip of Sumatra with Banda Aceh as its capital and largest city, and had a population of about 5.6 million in mid 2025. Granted special autonomous status, Aceh is a religiously conservative, majority-Muslim territory and the only Indonesian province to officially apply Islamic law, home to ten indigenous ethnic groups of whom the Acehnese form roughly seventy percent.
