Bujumbura Province

Bujumbura Province is one of the five provinces of Burundi created in the country's 2025 administrative reorganization, which reduced Burundi from eighteen provinces to five. It was formed by merging the former Bubanza, Bujumbura Mairie, Bujumbura Rural and Cibitoke provinces, together with parts of Rumonge and Muramvya provinces. The province contains the city of Bujumbura, Burundi's largest city and economic capital, even though the country's political capital has since moved to Gitega. A province of the same name existed from Burundi's 1962 independence until 1991, when it was split into separate Bujumbura Mairie and Bujumbura Rural provinces, the components the 2025 reform has now recombined along with additional territory.
