Chechnya, officially the Chechen Republic, is a republic of Russia in the North Caucasus, bordered within Russia by Dagestan, Stavropol Krai, Ingushetia and North Ossetia and by Georgia to the south along the Caucasus Mountains. Its capital is Grozny, and the republic fought two wars of secession from Russia in the 1990s and 2000s before coming under the rule of the Kadyrov family.
