Gifu Prefecture is a landlocked prefecture of Japan in the Chubu region of Honshu, spanning mountainous terrain in its north and the Nobi Plain in its south. Its capital is the city of Gifu, and the prefecture is home to the historic thatched-roof villages of Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
