Occitanie is the southernmost administrative region of metropolitan France excluding Corsica, created on 1 January 2016 from the former regions of Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrenees. It has a population of 6,124,653 as of 2023 across an area of about 72,724 square kilometers, and its prefecture (capital) is Toulouse.
