The Sakha Republic, also known as Yakutia, is a republic of Russia in the Russian Far East, the largest federal subject in the country and the largest subnational governing body in the world by area, covering more than three million square kilometers of mostly Siberian taiga and tundra. Its capital is Yakutsk, and it is home to the Sakha people alongside a Russian population, with some of the coldest inhabited settlements on Earth located within its territory.
