The Congo Basin core of the continent: Angola, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Republic of the Congo and Sao Tome and Principe, dominated by equatorial rainforest and the Congo river system. Chad's Saharan north sits at the edge of the group; the boundary follows the UN geoscheme rather than physical vegetation alone, keeping it apart from Northern Africa's Sahara belt and Eastern Africa's rift highlands.
