The seven countries north of the Sahara's climatic divide: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia and Western Sahara, sharing the Mediterranean coast, the Sahara itself and the Nile valley. The UN geoscheme draws the southern boundary at the Sahara rather than at any national frontier, so a Sahel country such as Mali or Niger, immediately south of that line, belongs under Western Africa instead.
