The Levant, the Arabian Peninsula, Anatolia and the Caucasus: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen, commonly called the Middle East in everyday usage. Turkey's Anatolian territory straddles Europe and Asia at the Bosphorus; the UN geoscheme places the whole country here rather than splitting it, and the same geographic frame, without settling any political status, places contested Jerusalem within this subregion rather than assigning it a specific national label.
