FAQs

Who ran the old university in Dillingen?

From 1563 to 1773 it was a Jesuit university.

The university grew out of a college founded in 1549 by the Prince-Bishop of Augsburg, Otto Truchsess von Waldburg, and Pope Julius III raised it to a university in 1551. From 1563 until the Jesuit order was suppressed in 1773 it was run as the first fully developed Jesuit university in the Holy Roman Empire. It was dissolved in the secularization by the Elector of Bavaria.
