The delta of the Colorado River at the head of the Gulf of California in Mexico, once a vast wetland that has been dramatically reduced as upstream dams and diversions in the United States now leave the river dry before it reaches the sea in most years. Restoration flows released under a binational agreement have begun to revive small parts of its historic wetlands.
