Ganges Delta

The Ganges Delta, also called the Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta, the Bengal Delta or the Sundarbans Delta, is the world's largest river delta, formed where the combined waters of the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers empty into the Bay of Bengal across Bangladesh and India's West Bengal state. It covers more than 105,000 square kilometers, stretching from the Hooghly River in the west to the Meghna River in the east, with about two thirds of its area in Bangladesh and one third in West Bengal. Fed by rivers draining the Himalayas of Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan, its alluvial soils make it one of the most fertile regions on Earth, sometimes called the Green Delta, and it is also one of the most densely populated, home to an estimated 273 million people.
