A major river of North America, rising in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and flowing roughly 3,000 kilometers to the Gulf of Mexico, forming much of the border between the United States and Mexico along its lower course. Its water is heavily allocated for irrigation and municipal use on both sides of the border.
