Chasm

Canyons and Gorges

A deep, wide fissure or gap in the Earth's surface, generally used for an especially large or dramatic canyon or gorge whose scale and steep walls set it apart from an ordinary valley. The term emphasizes the landform's visual and physical scale rather than naming a distinct genetic process of its own.
