Angren is a district-level city in Tashkent Region, eastern Uzbekistan, about 70 miles east of Tashkent on the Angren River, formed in 1946 from four villages that grew up during the Second World War within the Angren coal basin. It covers 150 square kilometres and had a population of 191,300 at the 2021 census; its coal reserves represent close to a quarter of Central Asia's total coal supply, and the city also carries a construction-materials industry, a rubber plant and a power station.
