Anuradhapura is a major city in the north central plain of Sri Lanka, the capital of North Central Province and of Anuradhapura District, lying 205 kilometres north of Colombo on the banks of the historic Malwathu Oya. It is now a World Heritage Site, celebrated for its well-preserved ruins of the ancient Sinhalese civilisation.
