Bahir Dar, whose name means sea shore, is the capital city of the Amhara Region, Ethiopia, on the southern shore of Lake Tana, source of the Blue Nile. Known as one of Ethiopia's leading tourist destinations, the city draws visitors to the ancient island monasteries scattered across Lake Tana and to the nearby Blue Nile Falls, alongside its role as a regional administrative and commercial hub.
