Bauchi, formerly known as Yakoba, is a city in northeastern Nigeria and the administrative center of Bauchi State, the Bauchi Local Government Area, and the traditional Bauchi Emirate. It sits on the northern edge of the Jos Plateau at an elevation of 616 meters. The Bauchi Local Government Area covers about 3,687 square kilometers and had a population of 493,810 at the 2006 census, and Bauchi city is one of twenty local government areas that make up Bauchi State.
