Bilbao is a city in northern Spain, the largest city in the province of Biscay and in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, with a population of roughly 347,000 in 2024, making it the eleventh most populous city in Spain. Once dominated by heavy industry and shipbuilding along the Nervion estuary, Bilbao reinvented itself in the 1990s around culture and design, most famously with the Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
