Biskra is the main city of the Zibans region and the administrative capital of Biskra Province in Algeria. Its population was recorded as 307,987 in 2007. Located in northeastern Algeria at the edge of the Sahara Desert, it is nicknamed the Queen of the Zibans, the Door of the Desert, and the Saharan Nice, and has long served as a crossroads between cities to the north and south.
