Bujumbura, formerly Usumbura, is Burundi's largest city and main port on the north-eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. It served as Burundi's political capital until 2019, when the seat of government moved to Gitega, and it remains the country's leading economic and commercial centre, shipping coffee, cotton and tin ore.
