Cabinda

Cabinda is the capital city of Cabinda Province, an exclave of Angola on the Atlantic coast, sited on the right bank of the Bele River. The settlement began around 1490 as a fishing community, became a Portuguese trading post in 1620, and was formally founded in 1883 following the Treaty of Simulambuco, receiving official city status in 1956. The municipality had an estimated 739,182 residents in mid 2020, with roughly 550,000 in the city proper at the 2014 census. Cabinda is one of Angola's main oil ports, reflecting its proximity to significant offshore oil reserves.
