Damanhur is a city in Lower Egypt and the capital of Beheira Governorate, located about 160 kilometers northwest of Cairo and 70 kilometers southeast of Alexandria in the western Nile Delta, with a population of 329,572 as of 2023. The settlement traces its origins to Egypt's Old Kingdom period and flourished in medieval times as a caravan town on the post road between Cairo and Alexandria. Its modern economy centers on agricultural processing, including cotton ginning, potato processing and date picking, reflecting the fertile conditions of Beheira province.
