Isiro, formerly known as Paulis, is the capital of Haut-Uele Province in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, lying between equatorial forest and savannah with an estimated population of about 182,000. Coffee is its main economic resource, and most residents speak Pa-Zande, Lingala, and Swahili.
