Jaipur is the capital and largest city of the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan, with a population of about 3.1 million as of 2011, making it the tenth most populous city in India. Known as the Pink City for the terracotta-colored buildings of its historic walled center, founded in the early eighteenth century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur is famous for landmarks such as the Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort and forms part of India's popular Golden Triangle tourist circuit.
