Jwaneng

Jwaneng is a town in the Southern District of Botswana, though it operates its own separate town council, at an elevation of about 1,189 meters. It grew up around the Jwaneng diamond mine, considered the richest in the world by content of gem quality diamonds, and access to the town once required permission from the mine's operator, Debswana. The 2022 census recorded 18,784 residents, and by 2015 the community had become notably prosperous, identified as the second richest village in Botswana with a poverty rate below 3 percent. The town has a hot semi-arid climate and is served by its own airport.
