Katsina

Katsina is a city in northern Nigeria and the capital of Katsina State, serving as seat of the Katsina Local Government Area. It lies about 260 kilometers east of Sokoto and 135 kilometers northwest of Kano, near the border with Niger, and its 2016 population was estimated at 429,000. The city is the center of an agricultural region known for groundnuts, cotton, hides, millet and guinea corn, and it hosts mills that process peanut oil and steel; it was also historically a center for large-scale livestock farming of cattle, goats, sheep and chickens. Its population is largely Muslim, drawn mainly from the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups.
