Kimberley is the capital and largest city of the Northern Cape province of South Africa, located about 110 kilometers east of the confluence of the Vaal and Orange Rivers. It has considerable historical significance for its diamond mining past and the siege during the Second Boer War, and it was where Cecil Rhodes and Barney Barnato made their fortunes, with Rhodes founding the De Beers diamond company there in the early days of the mining town.
