Lausanne

Lausanne is the capital and largest city of the Swiss French-speaking canton of Vaud, a hilly city on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Known as the Olympic Capital since the International Olympic Committee recognized it as such in 1994, it hosts the IOC's own headquarters, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and some fifty five international sport associations. The Romans built a military camp they called Lousanna at the site of a Celtic settlement near the lake, close to where the Vidy and Ouchy districts now stand. The municipality has a population of about 150,000, with the wider agglomeration reaching roughly 420,000 as of January 2019. Switzerland and Lake Geneva do not yet have their own entities on this atlas; both are recorded as open entity requests.
