Livingstone is a city in Zambia's Southern Province, about 10 kilometers north of the Zambezi River, close to Victoria Falls and connected by road and rail to the resort town of Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side. Named after the Scottish explorer and missionary David Livingstone, the first European to explore the area, the city served as the first capital of Northern Rhodesia from 1911 to 1935 and as the capital of Zambia's Southern Province from 1907 until 2011, when Choma took over that role. Its population was recorded at 177,393 in the 2022 census.
